Homework is NOT a Waste of Time
Alexandra

Homework should be a part of our daily routine. It is not a waste of time because it teaches the students discipline to do the work without being distracted. If we didn't have homework what would we learn? Now, I know homework is not the most exciting thing in the world especially next to cell phones, iPod's, and texting, however it helps you practice the things you've learned in class, it gives the students something to do at home instead of watching T.V. and it gives the parents an idea of how their child is doing in class. Therefore, why shouldn't kids have homework?

"Practice makes perfect". Have you ever needed to do something however you only practiced it once every day? Well that is why homework is there. It helps you to learn, and memorize the things you did at school. Doing well in school weather it is doing your homework or, getting work done in class all depends on the kind of future life that you want. For example, just say you needed to study for a science test, you failed it and, you wanted to become a scientist. Your final mark on your report card for science would drop and therefore you may not get accepted for the job that you want. You were too lazy to practice the skills for the science test and you thought it wouldn't affect your grade too much. Well if you had practiced you would have been living your dream being a scientist. You need homework to review what you did at school and become better at it.

Do you love your parents? Well, they love us, want the best for us, and work very hard to make us happy. We can make them happy too! If we get homework it will give our parents a chance to see how we are doing
in school, and to see if we need the extra help from them or if we are able to figure it out by ourselves. It will tell our parents if we are paying attention during class or if we are just chatting with our neighbour. If we didn't have homework, our parents would be thinking we are learning nothing in class and they wouldn't know what we have been up to.

Would you rather lose brain cells or gain brain cells? A study shows that kids and teens 8 to 18 years spend nearly 4 hours a day in front of a TV screen and almost 2 additional hours on the computer (outside of schoolwork) and playing video games. Watching T.V. affects the child's behavior because if the child watches violent shows he/she is most likely to be very aggressive during class etc. It is very important to monitor how much time your child is putting towards homework rather than T.V. By playing electronic devices you are losing all of the information you learned at school that day and, you are furthermore losing brain cells that you could have been using towards doing your homework.

It is important to have homework every day. We learn from doing homework. If you do homework you will learn things easily, make your parents very happy, and it gives it you something educational to do
while you're at home. Sometimes we think homework is just a waste of time however it will really help you later on in life when you are trying to get a good paying job. Electronics and other entertainment may help us pass time for a few hours then, however homework will help us for a long time in the future.

  1. Dear Alexandera,

Your essay was suberb. I loved the way you grabbed the readers attention in every sentence. Each of your paragraphs had a well-developed arguement that supported your opinion. A few things you might want to work on are you should have added more logical connectives to your essay. You also might want to add more emotional language throughout your essay to make it a little more interesting. Otherwise your essay was extrordinary.

  2. Dear Alex,
I think you did very well on this essay. Great word choice, and I really like your hook and the starting sentences of each of you're paragraphs. I think you should improve on the clencher. It didn't really restate from the introduction and bring me to the end. Overall, you did excellent.

  4. Dear Alexandra,
Great essay. I thought your hook could have been more attention grabbing and, I would use more emotive language. I liked how you listed all of your supporting details in your introduction and, how you tried to make opinions sound like facts.

  5. Dear Alexandra,
The piece of writing here I just read was amazing. From the start you clearly stated the thesis and grabbed your readers' attention. You had a lot of references and quotes especially the well known one "practice makes perfect." You held my attention throughout the whole essay and never lost me once. You used real life examples explained well, and you talked about what would happen if we did not do our homework. You pretty much stunned me as I read and said "WOW, this essay is great!" So keep up the good work.

  6. Dear Alexandera,

Your essay was so good it deserve an A! What I liked about your essay is that it is interesting. Usually I would agree that homework is a waste of time but your essay makes me believes that homework is not a waste of time. What I think you should improve on is your ending paragraph. It didn’t really say wow the way it should have. Over all you did an awesome job!
