Percents can be seen as ratios... out of 100

Changing Percents to Decimals

 The decimal point in a percent doesn't always appear but it's understood to be at the right of the whole number. For example, in 25%, the "invisible" decimal point is at the right of the 5. It is 25.
To change a percent to a decimal:
  • Move the decimal point two places to the left . (If the percent doesn't have two places to the left, add a zero to the left to create two decimal places)
  • Drop the percent sign
  • Remove any zeroes in the tenths place of a decimal (see chart below)
