Matthew 7: 9-11

Summary
The Lord God is giving and merciful, as we all know- more giving and merciful than anyone else. So imagine how caring He would be if even the evilest of people still have the slightest room in their darkness to care and give to others. For there are people in this world who do good and give well, though may not always deliberately, so those who ask evil people for favours and receive those favours, our God in Heaven, creator of this Earth, shall give twice as much, for he is the most caring and most willing to give to people who are willing to ask him.

What Jesus meant
As Jesus spoke this parable, he meant by his words that our Lord God is very giving and loving.  He was describing how the evilest of people would show even the tiniest bit of love and sympathy, and give gifts that would be considered amazing to some people, maybe not intentionally but still good gifts, and how God would reward such gifts to anyone who asks him. But possibly in order to receive such marvelous gifts, one must follow the Lord's will. As well, He is telling us that the Lord is very caring of everyone- we mustn't doubt him, not even once. So Jesus' parable may really lead up to the meaning that God will reward all of us with blessings and gifts as we ask Him through prayer, but under the extremely fair condition that we should follow His  Ten Commandments.

Prayer
Lord God, help us to be most grateful for all that you have given us, and to realize just how giving and merciful you are. Help us never to doubt you- to believe that you don't care. And help us, always, to stay away from all evil temptations that we will ever experience- and to care for all others, as you care for us.
    Amen.

The Parable of the Dishonest Manager

This parable is about a rich man and his manager. The rich man was told that the manager was squandering his property. The rich man got furious and fired the manager. The manager was really solemn after he got fired because he wasn't strong enough to dig, and to ashamed to beg. Then the manager had a brilliant idea. He got together all the debtors of the rich man. He asked everyone what they owed the rich man and he paid for it. He thought that if he gave a helping hand to others then they would welcome him into their homes so he won't have to beg. Then the rich man condemned the manager because he acted shrewdly.

I think that when Jesus told this parable he meant that we should all have friends. If we have trustable friends that look out for us then in our times of trouble they will be kind to us and help us. If we can't be trusted in little we can not be trusted in much. If we are dishonest in little then we will be dishonest in much.

My Weekend

THE EPIC PARTY!
By: Nicholas

So we're talking about our weekends. Let's just say MY WEEKEND WAS
SOOOOO AWESOME!!! The main part of my weekend was the HUGE PARTY at
Joseph house. So at the party first thing was that I was there first
at 12:00 right on the dot. So because of this his dad said I was very
punctual. After that, we went in the basement (which was the party
room) and I noticed his EPIC FACE light switch and I said "WOW COOL
LIGHT SWITCH!" and then he said "I know I made it myself, its sooo
epic isn't it?" Then we started playing PS3. After a few minutes of
playing we heard DING DONG from somewhere which we thought was the
T.V. Then we heard Joseph's dad calling for us. When we went upstairs
and we saw Adam standing in the doorway. He said "I've been waiting
here for 5 MINUTES!" We brought him inside and we went down to the
basement and Joseph's dad was on the phone ordering some things when
he was done he told us "Okay so I ordered the pizza, the beer, the
stripping girls, the poker table, and all the other good stuff." (By
the way he was just joking but we did have pizza). After this everyone
else started arriving and we played PS3 for a little bit more than we
played Fast and Furious IN REAL LIFE (with fake cars but that doesn't
matter), we jacked some ones Ferrari (just kidding), and we played
outside a little until some people showed up but it turned out they
just wanted to play too. So we played for a little more and then we
went inside to watch Green Hornet. It was so cool until I had to
leave. That was one of the best days. This wasn't my whole weekend but
it turned out that Sunday was REALLY boring so that's my journal entry
of my weekend I hoped you liked it.
Matthew 5: 13
Salt and Light

In this parable it talks about somebody being a leader and what
happens to him when he loses his leadership. Salty also refers to
being a leader in this parable for the whole human race which means
everyone, but if the leader does something bad, foolish, or wrong that
person loses his leadership no one will listen to him, trust him, or
believe in him anymore and he cannot become a leader again, because
the people don't trust or rely on him. Then when the person lost his
leadership and he's thrown out on the streets. He becomes worthless
and people ignore him and walk around him, and don't bother to give
him any respect.
I think in this parable Jesus is trying to say if you are a leader
don't be foolish otherwise people won't believe you anymore and stop
listening to you. I also think that he meant once you are a leader,
and you blow your shot there's no way of becoming a leader again
because all of the people that believed found a new leader and trust
the new one now.

The Parable of the Three Servants

Summary
There was a master who had three servants. The master had to go on a journey, so he called his three servants to take care of his property. To the first servant he gave five thousand gold coins, the second two thousand, and the third one thousand. The master left on his journey. The servant with five thousand invested it and got ten thousand. Then the servant with two thousand did the same and got four thousand. The last servant hid the money. The master came from his journey and was proud of everybody except the last servant. He kicked the last servant out of the house.

Moral
The moral of the story is that we have to use our talents. If we use our talents we will get more talents. We must use our talents to do great things and help other people. Then the more talents you get.

Prayer

Lord our father help us to use our talents to help others and praise your name. Give the people more talents if they used there first talents.

Amen

Treasures New and Old
Scripture Verse: Matthew 13:52
In Matthew 13:52, Jesus said to them that every teacher of the Law
who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a master who
brings out new and old treasures. In each house-hold, there is a
disciple who is the master. The master inherits new people and just
brings out the old. Each one has many different people, either the
righteous or wicked. The treasures in each household are the people in
them.
The lesson in the 'Parable of Treasures New and Old' is that the good
will be separated from the bad; therefore the disciples are the
masters who bring out the treasures. Jesus was trying to say that when
we die, we will be separated by the angels from the wicked or
righteous. He was giving a story about what will happen in Heaven to
His people. The lesson that I learned is that Heaven is a place full
of different people that are in different households/places. When
Jesus told this parable, He probably wants us to live for today but
prepare for tomorrow.

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet

SUMMARY
A king gave a wedding banquet to his son.  He sent his slaves to go and get the people who had been invited. But they refused to come. Again the king sent his slaves to gather those who were invited to the banquet. But the paid no attention to them. Those who were invited came to the king's farm and business and killed all of the slaves. The king was very mad and sent his troops to go and kill the people and destroy their city. Afterwards he told his slaves to go into the streets and gather all of those people who wish to come. Soon the wedding banquet was filled with people and everyone was having a good time.
REFLECTION
I think Jesus was trying to say that he loves everyone and he wants to invite us all to his party in heaven. Jesus invited everyone to his party. Only some people showed up and the others didn't really care. Jesus was very sad. He loved them and he wanted them to love him by coming to his party.  This was just like when the king invited people to his banquet.  They didn't want to come so he invited anyone who was on the streets. The king was not happy about this just like Jesus.
PRAYER
Dear God,
Help us to accept your invitation into your kingdom. May we be grateful for the blessings you have given us and help us to be kind and generous to each other. Let us not be too busy or distracted to go to your party.
                                                                In this we pray,
                                                                                Amen

Jesus the Good Shepherd

Jesus identifies himself as the gate that leads to salvation for whoever enters by him. Jesus identifies himself as the good shepherd who knows his sheep and lays down his life for them. Earlier in John 10, Jesus describes a sheepfold, which was a circular enclosure, often made of stones. In ordinary practice, sheep were brought into the fold at night so that they would be protected from predators and thieves. During the day, the sheep were taken out of the fold to graze in the pasture. The sheepfold is a metaphor for the people of God. By identifying himself as the gate or door, Jesus indicates that those who believe in him belong to a wider community. Through faith, they relate to God and to God's people. The pattern of going in and out of the sheepfold recognizes that the faithful regularly gather as a community, then go out into the world, then gather together again. This repeated movement from gathered community out into the world and then back again characterizes the life of faith. This is one of the seven "I am" sayings in John's Gospel. Since the expression "I am" recalls the name of God, who is the "I Am" these sayings emphasize that Jesus is God's Word in the flesh.

The moral of this passage is to tell the shepherd that if there is a person sneaking in he is not a good shepherd. He who comes before me is a thief and a bandit.
Jesus declares that He is "the gate for the sheep." In other words, Jesus is claiming that He is the One who provides entrance into "the sheepfold,' and He is the only entrance into the fold. Jesus is declaring that He, as the eternal Son of God and the Savior sent by God, is the only way by which we can be redeemed from the righteous judgment of God and restored to fellowship with God. Jesus alone can give us access to the kingdom of God. A hired hand works with the sheep, but he is not a shepherd; he works for money, he feels no love or devotion to the sheep. The hired hand does not have a personal interest in the sheep because they do not belong to him: the sheep are his living, but they are not his life; he tends the sheep, but he is not tenderly attached to them. The hired hand will not risk his life for the sheep: he sees the wolf coming, he forsakes the sheep and runs for his life; he flees because he does not care about the sheep. In contrast to the hired hand, Jesus declares that as the Good Shepherd, He cares for the sheep, so much so that He willingly lays down His life for His sheep. Six times in this passage Jesus declares that as the Good Shepherd He will lay down His life for His sheep because of His commitment to His Father, and because of His great love for His sheep, Jesus as the Good Shepherd protects His sheep with His own life. In an emergency a good shepherd would venture to risk his life for his sheep but Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, came into the world for the express purpose of voluntarily laying down His life for His sheep! Jesus laid down His life to protect His sheep from the righteous wrath of God by satisfying the righteous demands of God's justice. In His resurrection life Jesus continues to plead on behalf of His people and guarantees our protection until we arrive safely at our heavenly Father's home.
The Parable of "The Unforgiving Servant"
Matthew 18: 23-35
The parable "The Unforgiving Servant" is Matthew 18: 23-35. "The Unforgiving Servant" is about how a person from a different rank gave mercy to another who is below which is his servant and how the servants servant did not give or show mercy at all. The person of the higher rank is a King and he gave mercy to his servant which owed him money. In order for the King to have given mercy to him the slave pleaded for mercy and said to the King "be patient with me and I will pay all I owe". After the King was through talking to him the servant himself came across his own servant. The King's servant said to his own servant "where is the money you owe?" And with that the servant begged and pleaded and said the same words the King's servant said to the King and yet the servant did not give mercy. Some of the other servants heard what happened and told the King. The King was outraged when heard this and brought forth the servant he gave mercy upon. The King said to his servant "You wicked servant. I cancelled that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?" After the King said that, out of anger he told the guards to torture his servant until his debt had been paid.

What I think Jesus is trying to tell us in this story is be forgiving. He's trying to say that if you don't forgive you will not be forgiven either. It's also saying show compassion to others so they know and you can show forgiveness. Jesus wants to teach us to be kind, forgiving, compassionate, and loving to one another that way we can receive the same thing back. That's what I think the morale of the parable is.

                         Date: Thursday December 1, 2011

Lord our Father help us understand the importance of your kingdom. Let us all be accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven. Your Kingdom as the greatest tree and your people as the birds that nest. Let us follow the right path that leads to you.

Amen.

Dear Almighty God
Thank you for the people in my life, who surround me, and for all they have done for me.
Thank you lord for your son, who has thought us right from wrong, for loving us, and most of all for saving us from our sins.
I love you, may we be as generous, loving, and as kind as you are.
Amen.

The Parable of the Rich Fool
(Luke 12.13-21)

When Jesus was teaching someone asked him to tell their brother to split their property. Then Jesus told the parable. The parable is about a man who grew an abundant amount of crops. He thought to himself "Where shall I put my crops?"  Then he decided to destroy his barns and build them larger than before. He said to his soul "Soul you are very abundant, so now you can relax and be merry!" But then God told him "You fool your life will be taken tonight! Then whose will all your treasures be?" This is how it will be for those who aren't rich toward God, but are to themselves.
The moral of this story is to be rich towards God and yourselves. You can be rich toward yourselves but not as much as you should be towards God. You should never spoil yourself so much to forget the real reason why you live. You should always love God with all your heart, all your mind and all your self. This is because He was the One who made human life, the One who made the world, and the One who made you. If you forget the real reason why you live on this world alive and safe, you can't get into heaven like all the other people who loved God.

The Workers in the Vineyard
Scripture verse: Mathew 20:1-16
"The Kingdom of heaven is like this. Once there was a man who went
out early in the morning to hire some men to work in his vineyard. He
agreed to pay them a silver coin a day. He went out at nine o'clock
and saw some men standing around, so he hired them to work in his
vineyard. At twelve o'clock and at three o'clock he did the same
thing. It was almost five o'clock when he saw another set of men. He hired them to work in the vineyard. When evening came, the owner told the foreman to pay the workers, starting with those hired last to those hired first. The men hired last were paid the same amount as the men hired first. The men hired in the morning were angry, because they thought they will be paid more than they bargained for. They took the money and shouted at the employer. 'Listen, my friend' the owner said to them, 'I have not cheated you. After all, you agreed to do a day's work for one silver coin. I want to give these men I hired last as much as I gave you. Don't I have the right to do as I please with my money? or Are you jealous because I'm generous?'' When Jesus finished he said "those who are last will be first and
those who are first will be last"

Moral
The parable "The Workers in the Vineyard" teaches you to be:
generous, to not be greedy, to appreciate what you're given,
regardless the amount, and that you shouldn't be jealous of your
neighbour. It's not good to be greedy, jealous, or ungrateful like the
first hired workers. You must be thankful for the little you get and never let your mind wander along the road of jealousy. Be generous like the owner of the Vineyard. It doesn't matter if you started first or last, you'll all get the same amount of praise of blessing.

The parable of the net
Name: Megan
Date: Thursday, December 1, 2011
Teacher: Ms.Babb

This parable was about the kingdom of heaven. When fishermen use a net to gather up fish, they would throw the net into the lake. Later they would bring the net back towards them to divide the fish. The good fish go into their buckets and the useless ones get thrown back into the lake. When your life comes to an end, angels would divide the people who are evil from the people who are good.

The lesson of this parable is, in the life that you're living, you should be nice, loving, respectful, and always pray to god. If you choose to do those things, the angels will decide to put you in heaven. If you chose to be bad, disrespectful, and not pray to god, the angels will not invite you to heaven.

        Dear God,
Help us to make good choices in life. Help us to be kind, generous, loving, and forgiving towards others so that we may rest in heaven peacefully. Show us the way to being compassionate and patient with others.
                                        In Jesus name, Amen

Parables of the Ten Bridesmaids
Matthew 25: 1-13
Anita
Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lambs and went out to meet the groom. The wise took their lambs and brought extra oil, but the five other foolish ones didn't. The groom was coming in late, so the ten bridesmaids got tired and fell asleep. Soon they were alerted that the groom had came and got up and prepared the lambs. Then the foolish asked "please give us your oil, your lambs are falling asleep." But the wise brides said no and to go buy their own oil at the market, since there wouldn't be enough for all of them. Later, when the foolish ones came back the door was shut. The foolish ones pleaded' "Lord, Lord open the door for us." But the Lord replied, "Believe me, I don't know you," so you must keep my watch. You may never know the day or hour of my return.

I think what Jesus was trying to say in this parable is that we should always be prepared for what is next to come. In the way I see it Jesus is saying that you'll never know when He will come back to Earth, so you should always be prepared. In this parable Jesus says that 'there were 10 bridesmaids. Also how five were wise ones and 5 were foolish. When the groom had came out the foolish ones lambs wouldn't wake up because the foolish bridesmaids didn't bring oil. I could use that example and relate to it. A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last, both do the same thing; only at different times, is a quote by John Dalberg Acton. This basically means that wise people make smarter choices than foolish people, what I think the moral of the paragraph is.
