The Decision

If you wanted to go somewhere but your parents wouldn't allow you, would you obey them or still go? Everyone wants the best, but sometimes your parents disagree to what you want. Heather wished to go

to Columbia University where every student protested against racism and the war. As a result, classes were always cancelled due to the protests. Mr. Hoodhood didn't want her to go to university because he wanted her to stay at her job, so that she would be safe. In my opinion, I think that he is right because if she went, she wouldn't be safe with all the chaos and she wouldn't even learn much since there would be no classes. She would be safer if she just sticks with her job which is exactly what Mr. Hoodhood wanted for Heather. People today still act like Mr. Hoodhood because parents know what is best for their child most of the time. This reminds me of when I asked my parents if I could go to a high school nearby, but they want me to go to a farther school because it would be easier for them to pick me up and drop me off. This relates to Heather's situation because the decision was also up to her. Anyways, if you were put in this position, what would you choose? Remember, the decision is up to you!

Kowalski vs. Hoodhood
Mr.Hoodhood and Mr.Kowalski are two different people with a lot in common, but they also have differences. They are similar because they're both architects that manage their own company. Both of them are great architects, but they put their job first instead of their family. Second of all, they are both fathers and they know what it's like to have children that have their own problems almost every day. The only difference is that they don't really care, and they both ask if the other family owns an architectural company. Of course having a fantastic job is great, but they should care about their family too. Lastly, they both want the same jobs like the one in Camillo Junior High. With all the similarities, there are also differences between them. The both of them are rivals, which means that they don't get along with each other as well as some architects out there. They own different companies and Mr.Hoodhood's company got the job at Camillo Junior High instead of Mr. Kowalski's company. Finally, to get clients, one of them doesn't even try to create a totally different blueprint. Mr. Kowalski copied the blueprint of Mr. Hoodhood, and he was expecting to get the job…but he obviously didn't. However, their goal to get as many clients as they can doesn't change.

Macbeth Summary
Have you ever heard of the amazing William Shakespeare play called 'Macbeth'? Well, the setting is in Scotland and the king at that time was King Duncan. Macbeth dreamed to be King of Scotland one day, and
he did all that he can to get what he wanted. This whole thing started off with the three 'weird' witches who were brewing a magic potion that was designed to help fulfill an evil prophecy. While doing that,
 they all sang 'Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn, and caldron bubble,' altogether after each part.
On the other hand, King Duncan of Scotland heared the news that Macbeth and Banquo, his generals, have defeated two different armies in the battle! While they were on their way to meet the king, they saw the witches. The three of them told Macbeth that he will become Thane of Cawdor and that eventually he will one day take King Duncan's spot as the King of Scotland. For Banquo, they said that his descendant
will become King of Scotland, but not Banquo himself. When Duncan's men arrived, as a reward, Macbeth had been made Thane of Cawdor because of his great work in the battle. Macbeth started to believe
the witches after all. One night, King Duncan and Macbeth planned to dine together at Macbeth's castle. As soon as the news got to Lady Macbeth that the king and his sons were coming, she convinced Macbeth
to kill the king so that he will take his spot. He did what she said and he stabbed King Duncan while he was sleeping, also he planned to blame it all on the chamberlains that they also killed. In all this insanity, he remembered that Banquo's descendant would become King of Scotland so he hired someone to kill Banquo and his son, but his son Fleance escaped. During a feast, Macbeth acted crazy in front of the Scottish nobility, and they started to think that he wasn't ready to be King. Macduff, one of the people there, wanted to overthrow Macbeth. Anyways, Macbeth went to visit the witches to know more about what would happen next. They told him that he was incapable of being harmed by any man born of woman, that he would be safe until 'Birnam Wood' would go to Dunsinane Castle, and also to beware of Macduff. While Macduff was busy in England, Macbeth sent people to murder Macduff's wife and children. As a result, Macduff wanted revenge on Macbeth. Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth started to go crazy because of all the guilt she felt, so she killed herself in despair.
The confidence that Macbeth had disappeared when he saw an army, including Macduff and Malcolm, approaching the castle while holding branches from Birnam Wood. During the horrific battle, Macbeth found
out that Macduff wasn't born of woman which made it a lot scarier for him. In conclusion, Macduff beheaded Macbeth and Malcolm became the King of Scotland.

Did you know that many people are still affected by racism everyday? Even just one word can mean so much and can put many different images into your head. Racism leads to discrimination, teasing, and many more horrible things. You've probably already heard what racism is and how it's tremendously affecting people in the world, but have you ever thought about how these people feel? Well, I personally think that judging people based on their racial differences is definitely not right! God made us all equal according to His likeness and image and that we are unique and proud of who we are, not to treat others in undesirable ways. Now, what can you do to help? You can speak out when you witness people being racially discriminated or teased, tell friends and family about racism and your opinion so that they can all help and support you, or join any organization that is on the negative side of racism.

One thing that we should do to help is to speak out for people when we witness them being racially discriminated or teased. Regardless of who is watching or even if you don't know who you're speaking out for, all that matters is that you did something that can make a difference in someone's life. When people are being teased just because of who they are, it destroys their confidence.  Martin Luther King Jr. once said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character." He was trying to tell us that we shouldn't judge people by the colour of skin but by what's on the inside.  Racism has been a problem for many years and this is one thing we can all do to help.

Besides that, another helpful thing we should do is to tell friends and family about racism and your own opinion so that they can help and support you. The more you spread about how racism is an awful thing, you can get more support from people you know.  They can also tell other people about racism and how it affects everyone, therefore, people can also help make a change. Racism may not be what most people talk about, but there are others that are greatly affected by it. Don't you want to make the world a better place to live in?

Lastly, you can also join any organization that supports your belief. By doing this, your voice can be heard. When you hear people's opinion on racism, some of them might relate to how you feel about it, with a greater voice you can achieve the goals to help reduce the racism in the world today. When you join organizations, you have to be committed, especially when it comes to a serious case like racism. Dedication, commitment, and bravery are all the things to be successful when you want your voice to be heard. In addition, it's a great thing to do because it can help many people gain back the confidence that they lost.

By doing these things, I'm sure that you would become a wonderful leader to all. I believe that racism must come to an end and to reduce the racism, we can stand up for what we believe in, inform family and friends about racism and its effects, also we can join anti-racism organizations. Racism may not be the easiest thing to stand up to, but it's worth it all at the end. Remember, stand up for people even if it means standing alone. Be a leader; tell the world that there is someone out there that wants to put an end to racism! Want to make a difference? The answer is all up to you!

Homework is not a waste of time essay

Homework is Not A Waste of Time

      Do you think that homework is a waste of time? Well, I don't think it is because we understand more of what we learned at school, it gives us a chance to show how responsible we are by working independently, and it teaches us how to become more organized. These are just some of the reasons why I think that homework is not a waste of time. But I'm sure that there are plenty more of why homework is a good thing.

          One reason why I think homework isn't a waste of time is because it teaches us how to become more organized. As we grow older, we become more organized because each year we learn how to organize our homework altogether and put it aside from other things so that it doesn't get lost. It also prepares us for high school because when we go, there would be a lot of homework from the different classes and we would also have to organize them so that they won't be submitted to the wrong teacher. Without homework, we wouldn't be as organized as we are right now. The more organized you are, the faster you get things done.

          Furthermore, I think homework isn't a waste of time is because we understand more of what we learned at school by doing it at home. It gives us a clearer understanding of that specific subject or lesson that we learned that day. When we go back to school the next day, we would already understand the previous lesson so we could go ahead instead of repeating it. It also builds up our knowledge in that subject. I'm sure that everyone would want a clear understanding first then move on, instead of moving on and not understanding anything.

          The last reason why I think homework isn't a waste of time is because it gives us a chance to show how responsible we are by doing it independently. We can demonstrate how good of a leader/role model we are by completing all of our homework on time. As a result of handing it in on time, we get a grade for homework completion. It also prepares us for the future when we start to do things on our own. Also, by showing your responsibility the teachers could depend on you more when they want you to bring something in or to finish something.

          Becoming more responsible, organized, and getting a clear understanding, all the reasons why I think homework is not a waste of time. Homework may be boring, but there's a lot of good that you get from it. We work independently and we become more responsible when we finish homework on time. Wouldn't you want to be a good role model to all by showing your responsibility and organizational skills?

Lent
Lent. What is 'Lent'? Well, it is the time to repent from all your sins and clean your soul. The time of Lent goes on for forty days and it doesn't include Sunday's. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, it is the day when priests put a cross on your forehead made from last year's palms. The cross is a sign of mortality and penitence. As Catholics, we sacrifice something during this time like what Jesus did for us when he stayed in the desert for forty days and forty nights without food or water. During those days, the Devil tempted him to eat but Jesus said no. As a result of fasting, He was stronger by the end. Lent is important to me because as a Catholic, I want to show Jesus that I can also sacrifice something like what He did. Christiansmostly give up something that they really enjoy, but it depends on what you want to do. My drawing shows people going to church during the time of Lent. We all go to church to pray to God and to ask for forgiveness. We should all remember to "Turn away from sin and Believe
in the Gospel."

ILITE
                          The Intermediate Leaders In Training Event, also known as ILITE, it was the most inspirational conference I've ever been to! It was on Friday, February 3 at Mother Theresa High School. At the conference, I learned that anyone can be a leader and that you don't have to be a superhero to make a change. The motivational speaker was the funniest guy ever! Everything he said was hilarious, but at the same time he talked about serious things and how we can all become leaders. What was the purpose of this? It was held so that all of us can realize that it takes one small step at a time to become true role models to everyone.
                      My first workshop was called 'Breathe Easy,' they taught us some ways to handle stress. I met so many people from different schools, we introduced ourselves and we played games to know more about each other. When it was over, we had lunch in the cafeteria, and there were many performances to watch during the lunch break. The performers were Starchild X, Diego, and many dancers! Every single performance was incredible! It was like a concert during a school day! I enjoyed Diego's performance the most because I was really looking forward to it, and he was the only one I heard of before. Workshop #2 was called 'Who are you?', the people handling the workshop are from an organization called '1Focus.' They told us about their journeys and their purpose. Their purpose is to help a specific place to lead them to a brighter future. This year, they are focusing on education somewhere in India. Many people can look up to them and follow what they did to achieve their goals in life.

                   To end off the day, everyone who attended ILITE joined in prayer and worship to thank God for everything, for all the blessings and to help us all in our journey to become great leaders. I'm sure that everyone who attended walked out with a smile and carried with them everything they learned to be a successful person/role model. There are no words to describe how much fun I had that day, and I will always remember the things Stu Sanders told us about how he became a leader. We should all make a change to make the world a better place for ourselves and
others.

zoink'd essay

The Zoink'd Experience

Have you ever been Zoink'd before? Well, you can watch the show named "Zoink'd" and see people do wacky and fun stuff! There are so many exciting things to talk about like what Zoink'd is, the hosts, the judges, and the contestants. It was one of the most amusing experiences ever! Zoink'd is a show that every family should watch!

"Be zany or be zoink'd!" This is the motto of the show. Zoink'd is all about adults performing their talents, and the kid's judge on how enjoyable the performance is. The person that doesn't get zoink'd at all or whoever has the highest points gets to be Zoink Master. It will be aired on March Break. If you watch this, I promise that you will enjoy every minute of it. To be honest, this was probably one of the funniest experiences I've ever had!

At the studio of Zoink'd, there are so many funny, nice, and talented people. They really work hard to make a fantastic show. The host was Adam Christie, he is hilarious! He kept all of us entertained during the breaks. There is also a guy named Josh that calls people down to show their talent, and he is also a great entertainer! The judges were Wyse, Natalie, Aleksa, and Neal. They were really nice; we got to talk to them during the breaks too. They're the ones who zoink the contestants if their performance is boring. The host from YTV was there too, his name is Carlos, and we also got to talk to him first since he was right beside our seats at the beginning. It was really cool because it was my first time meeting someone from YTV. I had a great time meeting all these amazing people.

          The performers were incredible; they did stuff that I can't even do. My favourite was the performance of Robert Patterson; it was astonishing how a bean came out of his eye! The other performers were Cam Steele, J Ropez, James Murphy, the girl who cried like a baby, the whistler, and the guy who played the guitar and sang. I had a fun time watching! Some people got zoink'd with blue liquid which was gross, but amusing. I wonder how it feels to be hit with random blue liquid and you don't even see it coming. These people really made my day!

          Zoink'd is probably one of the best family shows I've ever watched, because of the people I've met and how hard they work to get everything perfect. Everything that I experienced was maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity, but that day was enough. I will never forget how much fun I had. Now the question is, will you like the show as much as I do?

Scripture Verse: Matthew 13:52

His people. The lesson that I learned is that Heaven is a place full
of different people that are in different households/places. When
Jesus told this parable, He probably wants us to live for today but
prepare for tomorrow.

My Fantastic Experience At Teen Ranch

          When the principal told us that we were going to Teen Ranch, I was incredibly excited! You are probably thinking 'What is Teen Ranch?'; well it is an amazing place that has delicious food and many horses. These are just two of the reasons why Teen Ranch is a great place. There are so many things to talk about, like Food, Cabin Life, Outdoor activities, and Night Time activities. Teen Ranch is truly one of the best places for retreats.

The food at Teen Ranch was incredible, and I never got tired of eating it! We would have cereal every morning, but the breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals would always change. The desserts were amazing; it was exactly what everyone wanted. On our first day, we had perogies with sour cream, sausage, and a few vegetables. We were all full after so we gained a lot of energy for what we had to do next. My favourite meal there was the nachos and chicken wrap, it was delicious! On Wednesday, our cabin had to set up and clean up, it was cool. We were responsible for cleaning tables very well, and setting up with no mistakes. I hope that all of us would go again one day and enjoy eating, cleaning, and setting tables.

My friends and I got Cabin 3; the bunk beds were really high and new! I shared a cabin with Holley, Chasya, Amirah, Jordan, Sarah, Taelor, and Natalie. Sharing one cabin with them was a great experience, but weird at times. Those four days and three nights were just amazing! They would always make me laugh at night with jokes, and also during the day. We really got to bond as friends and get to know each other a little more. It's too bad that we couldn't extend the trip because then it would double the fun. I had the time of my life with all the Grade 7's, I wish I could replay all those great times with everyone. Being in a cabin with friends is a great adventure with laughter!

There were so many new things that I got to do at Teen Ranch, and one of them was horseback riding. The first time, I was really scared. My horse was named 'Milly', she is a light brown horse and she is mostly calm. When we were in the forest, Milly got out of control and left the line to cut through, I was terrified. But by the end of our second time riding, I was calm because I controlled the horse better than the first. The second new activities that I got to do were play Frolf and go rock climbing. Frolf is a mixture of Frisbee and golf; it is a really cool game. At Post #9, my Frisbee landed in the middle of the pond, everyone helped out to push it to the other side. We called it teamwork! On the other hand, rock climbing was pretty hard to do. My hands kept on slipping so I couldn't get to the top. I hope I can get better at it one day. Skating was really enjoyable, I had an awesome time! Playing predator and prey was really tiring, I stuck with Helena the whole time, and we were mice. At the end, I collected 19 cards. All these wonderful activities were challenging and fun!

Every end to an amazing day was always the best part! The first night was movie night, we watched the movie 'Karate Kid', it was hilarious and cool. It's now one of my favourite movies. The second night was Karaoke/Dance night; it was the funniest night throughout the whole trip. We had cabin dance-offs and songs that we can sing along to. It was a great night with friends! The last night was my favourite, it was the Bonfire/Dance Night. Walking through the woods was really creepy because we thought we were going to get pranked by the teachers and the staff at the Ranch. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, told scary stories, sang songs, and talked to friends. It was an amazing night. When it was over, we walked to the dining hall through the creepy woods, and then started the dance. The dance was fantastic, there was dancing, talking, laughing, sleeping, and sitting. It was a great ending to an amazing day!

Teen Ranch has changed me in so many ways, I got to know my friends more and I got to learn so many fabulous things! Now I know what it's like to have other people surrounding you, just like siblings. It was a great experience for everyone. The staff, my friends, and the teachers made it so special. I really want to re-live that week all over again. It was the best trip ever, the one that I will never forget.

         

            The Biography of John McCrae

        "In Flanders Fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row…"This line comes from the amazing poem 'In Flanders Fields' written by John McCrae, that describes his war experience during World War I. Poet John McCrae gave us so much to remember. John McCrae was born on November 30, 1872 in Guelph, Ontario. He was a physician at the Alexandra Hospital and assistant at the Royal Victoria Hospital, also being a soldier that joined World War I. John McCrae was stationed in different places to attend to the ones who needed care. I think that John McCrae is heroic because of all the wonderful help that he gave to people in need. McCrae was an artist, medical officer, poet, and a brave soldier. It takes a lot of courage to fight in war for the happiness of others. Sadly, John McCrae died from pneumonia on January 28, 1918 in Flanders. I know that we can continue to honour these great people, we were blessed to have brave people like them. Let's all remember John McCrae and the other hard-working soldiers by wearing a poppy on November 11, to remember their great help.                                                     By:Ranielle.
