Two words, unsympathetic character. Mr. Hoodhood plays Holling's father, who is too busy worrying about his job; than actually making time for his family. Some obvious examples of Mr. Hoodhood showing
this is when, Holling has a big play to perform that he had to do. Holling goes to his dad and tells him about the play, and instead of Mr. Hoodhood encouraging him. He decides that Holling has to wear the
embarrassing costume. This costume had yellow tights and to also make it any worse it had feathers sticking out from behind. I could tell Mr. Hoodhood simply cared more about his job than his son, once he had announced that Holling had to do the play no matter what. Mr. Hoodhood had made that decision simply because maybe, 'one day Mr. Goldman, the supposed one of the leading roles of the play, might ask him that he needs an architect to design a theatre one day.' Mr. Hoodhood is the just the kind of father that is more interested in his job and himself than his son.
 On the otherhand you can say that Mr. Kowalski is the same. They both are architects, who both are rivals, and own their own company. Even though Mr. Kowalski has been recently introduced in the book, there are quite a few differences you notice about him and Mr. Hoodhood. Unlike Mr. Hoodhood, you could tell two times in the chapter that Mr. Kowalski cares about his daughter as much as he does about his job. In the book when Meryl Lee and Holling go on a date, Mr. Hoodhood doesn't give any pointers or support in the date whatsoever. However, Mr. Kowalski volunteers to drive the couple to where the Romeo and Juliet play is located. Also, when Mr. Hoodhood finds out that Mr. Kowalski had found out his bid for the high school because of Holling; Holling gets silently yelled at while he blames it on Meryl Lee for telling her father about the model. This is related to the play Romeo and Juliet because both Meryl Lee and Holling are misunderstood and start to ignore each other. This leads into thecompany Mr. Kowalski and Associates dropping out their bid. I'm prettysure the reason why is because he noticed on how his daughter started acting and felt really guilty about what he had done. That's something Mr. Hoodhood would have never done. This small scenario in the chaptertells you on who really is the better parent here.

How far would you go to be king of Scotland? For Macbeth, a general of the Scottish King Duncan, who would very soon be made Thane of Cawdor (a very high ranking in Scottish Nobility). He was quite eager to be king once he had heard he was next in line to the throne. This play is set in Scotland, in the time of Shakespeare which is probably around the middle ages. This play includes 3 witches, Scottish King Duncan,
Macbeth, Banquo, Malcolm, Donalbian, Lady Macbeth, Macduff, and Fleance. The three witches would meet Macbeth and Banquo, while going on their way to the king to tell the two their destiny. Scottish King
Duncan was the king of Scotland before Macbeth took over, his two sons Malcolm and Donalbian were before Macbeth to the throne. Macbeth was the man who was told by a fortune from the witches that he was next in line to the throne. Macbeth was married to Lady Macbeth, and also kills the King, Donalbian and Banquo. Banquo was later on in the play killed by Macbeth, he was one of the king's generals, and also had a
son named Fleance, who would later on at the end of the play take the throne. Lady Macbeth was married to Macbeth, and also persuades Macbeth into killing King Duncan. Lady Macbeth later kills herself because of an overwhelming sense of guilt. The fair Macduff was one of the people who gave out the Thane of Cawdor awards out, who alsobeheads Macbeth at the near ending of the play.
                      Macbeth, a tragedy by Shakespeare, first printed in the First folio of 1623, probably written and first performed in 1606. The witch's prophecies were fulfilled about Macbeth's future, just not in the way
he thought. Three witche3s were making a magic potion designed to help fill an evil prophecy. The three of them would scream horrid things that would make you shiver. On the other side of town, Macbeth and
Banquo were getting praised by King Duncan for their tremendous work of defeating two separate armies. As Macbeth and Banquo were walking to the king's palace, they had bumped into the three witches. The
three witches had told Macbeth that he would be honoured with the Thane of Cawdor (ranking of the Scottish Nobility) and that he would eventually become king. Macbeth believes them and tells his wife, Lady
Macbeth, the news. Lady Macbeth insisted that Macbeth invite King Duncan over so they could kill him. Lady Macbeth had insisted this because in order for Macbeth to become king, King Duncan could either
have to step down or be killed. So Macbeth agreed and stabbed King Duncan later on that night while he was sleeping. Macbeth was crowned King of Scotland. Macbeth remembers when the witches say that Banquo descendent would one day become King of Scotland. He hires an assassin to kill Banquo and his son, Fleance. Banquo is killed, but Fleance escapes the attacks. Macbeth is visited by Banquo ghost at a feast; this raises Macduff suspension on Macbeth. Macduff decides to de-thrown Macbeth.
"Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it" – Macbeth
. Macbeth decides to get to the three witches because he is getting more paranoid on this crazy situation. The three witches tell him that he should be cautious around Macduff, will not be harmed by anyone who was by any man born of woman. Also he was told he will be safe until the forest reaches the castle. Macbeth was certain that none of these things would happen, but later he was aware that Macduff along with Malcolm were plotting to kill him. So Macbeth had went to kill Macbeths wife, children and his castle be seized. Over in the castle of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth had killed herself in despair of herself taking part in King Duncan's murder. Once Macbeth hears this terrible lost he is very depressed, but still tries to focus Macduff and Malcolm. What Macbeth doesn't know is that Macduff, Malcolm and a large army is out to kill him. Macbeth with no fear packs a large army to fight Malcolm and Macduff army, including himself. Macbeth sees Macduff on the battlefield. As they fight, Macduff whispers to Macbeth, 'I was not born of woman; I was untimely ripped from my mothers womb.' Macduff then beheads Macbeth, and Malcolm becomes King of Scotland. Later on the other son of Banquo, Fleance becomes the King of Scotland.

Homework isn't a waste of time

Homework is defiantly not a waste of time. Studies shown homework can make you smarter and more successful in life. A wise man once said "were doing our homework to make sure we're prepared." This quote is in fact true. In life there will be many obstacles in front of you and some you might have trouble getting through. So this is why being prepared can help you make life easier. One of the main essentials to
make life easier is something called homework.

Homework improves your skills at a certain subject you might not be doing well at. For example, a student might be failing a subject, like language. This student can improve their grade by studying and reviewing homework to get a better understanding of things. Homework can give less stress and more confidence in class while doing work, especially tests. Homework is shown to reduce the risk of failing atest.

Homework prevents student from wasting their night watching TV, playing computer games etc. homework gives students an effective way to spend their school nights. It helps exercise your brain and
refreshes it with brand new information you might need for after.

Also, homework helps your remember what you've learned at school during the previous day. This is also a great way to get students more focused in school and tests. Instead of trying to beat level 10 on a
game, or watching the newest episode on your favourite TV show you can study for a better future.

Homework is a very important part of education, and helps students review on what they've learned at school so far. Just as I said in my first paragraph, homework can improve your skills at any subject you
have trouble with.

Homework allows students to work independently. It allows students to try and figure out on their own on how to work specific homework problems. It also shows teachers how the student understands each
subject. It helps students become more independent when they got older and get a job so they don't have to rely on other people to help them.

"Success doesn't come to you, you go to it." "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." "The difference between school and life: In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson." All these quotes are about success and how homework is an essential key to life that can help yousucceed. I'm pretty sure there will be reasons against my opinions but
if I could sum this all up I'd say: Homework is not a waste of time.

                   Lent? Just four letters but means so much, to us as Catholics. Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter Sunday. In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the first day, or usually the starting of the season of Lent, which lasts for about 40 days. Ash Wednesday is a day when Christians go to Church and get ashes marked on our forehead, in the sign of a cross. The ashes are burnt from the
palms of the year before. Why is there ashes on our head, you might ask? Well, ashes symbolize the sin that we have and the death that we will face. This helps us to remember sins and the redemption that has been given to us all. Lent is a time when we as Christians prepare for Easter by using the time of Lent to fast, pray, and celebrate almsgivings. The purpose of Lent is to reflect on Jesus Christ and His suffering, His sacrifice, His life, death, burial and also His resurrection. "And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the Good News." Mark 1:12-15. These verses in the bible tell us that there basically is a time for everything. There is a time to pray, sleep, eat and even play. During the about 40 days of lent, the time is too fast, pray, and give. For forty days, Jesus stayed in the desert for forty days and prayed to God. He was tempted but the devil to eat, but Jesus refused. This is the main reason of why lent is so important.

Not long ago, there was a trip for the grade 7's and 8's of Cardinal Léger. For what I thought, was that it would probably be boring and I'd get tired. But, it wasn't anything like that. I.L.i.t.e changed my life forever. I wasn't just an ordinary seventh grader going to school, I now am a leader. I am now showing different examples to everyone around me, in different ways.

Many schools were at the i.L.i.t.e event. Also, there were some high school students volunteering to speak, different teachers for each workshop, the nice staff from the high school setting up, and a funny comedian and speaker Stu Saunders. I.L.i.t.e was at mother Teresa catholic high school. Mother Teresa is by the looks of it, a very great school. The school is partially big with lovely classrooms and nice teachers. It was a great school to do the presentations and the workshops. I think i.L.i.t.e took place because it gave intermediate students a chance to make a difference in the world. One of my favourite quotes is, 'one million starts with one.' Which basically means that being a leader doesn't really mean that you have to do something big. Every big accomplishment just starts with a simple plan that you vision in your head.

I.L.i.t.e stands for intermediate leaders in training event. What this basically is, is that the organization takes a bunch of 7's and 8's from different catholic schools in the district, and also some 6's, and shows them how each of them can be leader. Not a leader by bossing people around but by doing small quiet examples. Some more recognized people that told us about it were Diego, the winner from the next star season 3. Also, Starchildx, a rising band that's song superstar, appeared on 99.9 virgin radio. Before we got to meet all these wonderful talents we needed transportation. Our school arrived at i.L.i.t.e at about 8:30 a.m.by bus. We were to be at school by 7:45 because the buses were to leave at around 8:00 in the morning. The bus trip took about 20 minutes because the buses were kind of delayed. We left from i.L.i.t.e at about 2:30 -3:00 in the afternoon, Arriving back safely at Cardinal Leger at about 3:15 p.m.

Some things I learned from this experience were to love who you are inside and out. For my first workshop went to a station called, if I were a boy. This station was basically talking about how the media portrays the ideal girls and boys. We had talked about how we thought how the media showed us about an ideal person through listening to the media and other sources. There turned out to be more ideas and suggestions for the ideal of a girl than a boy. We talked about why there was more, and shared our ideas. Next we did an un ideal boy and girl. Lots of comments were said about it. Once we finished the teacher asked if anyone actually fitted into the ideal girl or boy. There was no one close to it. This showed me that everyone is perfectly imperfect, it was a fantastic workshop.

My second workshop was teens and social justice. This workshop was basically about how we as growing teens can make a change in the world. Our instructor was from India and showed us about his country and how it needs change. He used a recognizable example, Russell Peters, to show us about the Indian culture. Russell peters basically showed us funny yet true ways on how Indians act. Behind all the laughing that came out of our workshop was the truth. The truth that we finally all understand that each and every one of us can all go off and make a big difference in the world. Now, I'm starting to think that this trip is just the starting of a new leader coming in the next few years

A Different Side of TV

Lights, camera, action. It was my time to shine. If only that could have come true when you wanted it too. For me, well I was on TV, but off to the side in the audience. That's where I sat for about the next six hours, while I watched uncommon, loony and strange acts take place on the set of Zoink'd.

You may ask, what is Zoink'd? Well, Zoink'd is YTV's new show based on unusual talent completion where adults get to show off their wacky and zany moves to the kid's judges. The instructions to the game are easy, an adult does a wacky talent, that has to impress the kid judges and they interesting part was they only had 60 seconds to do it. If the judges don't like the act, the performer will get 'Zoink'd' which basically is getting hit with ping pong balls, streamers or blue goo. The set of Zoink'd dazzled me; it was a little small than how it would appear on TV. When you first step on the set you see a black, glossy, tiled floor, with the big words Zoink'd printed in the colours blue, green and a pinkish – purple. As you look up more, you see 4 name tags, and levers on a mini step stage. That's where the judges are. We were assorted to the audience section that basically surrounded the whole set.  There were bluish, soft movie chairs that we sat on. When we started the show's episode, I started to notice more about 'movie magic.' Zoink'd have made me change the way I see TV, in a whole different today. Especially with the judges, competitors, and us, the audience.

The show must go on, with the help of the people. There were 4 judges, Natalie, Wyse, Aleksa and Neal. They were some fair judges if you asked me, I agreed with most of their decisions. My favourite judge was wise, he was the best judge. But I didn't think the performers agreed there were about 10 different acts. There was one wear a man named James started to do all the amazing dance moves. With a surprising twist he actually won the prize. The other acts were weird, but also original. Some letters received claps, and some performers received the five letter word 'Zoink'd.' That was mostly the enthusiasm from the crowd, which were us. The audience felt marvellous because we actually got the privilege of being their, having a chance to be on TV and learn more about media literacy all in one day.

In between takes, we had breaks. During each break we had someone show their zany talent in exchange for a whoopee cushion. Some of the attention-grabbing talents came from our school, which made it even better. I could say everyone definitely had there own special talent. We also had a marshmallow competition, where we had to throw marshmallows into Adam's, the host, mouth. Adam, the host, was probably the best ever. His hilarious personality and down to earth personality made this the best trip, right after Teen Ranch. There was never a dull moment, especially when the other host, Josh, showed us a couple of his dance moves. It was an astonishing experience.

Time has convinced me one thing, TV if for appearing on, not looking at. This trip showed me all the secrets about TV. Being in the audience showed me that, not like in a normal TV show you might watch there is a lot of tape and redo. That definitely got me agitated sometimes, but if it meant being on TV, it was worth it. This trip made me re-think about TV and how it's worked. Now, I'll probably think twice before I actually believe on what the show on TV.

Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lambs and went out to meet the groom. The wise took their lambs and brought extra oil, but the five other foolish ones didn't. The groom was coming in late, so the ten bridesmaids got tired and fell asleep. Soon they were alerted that the groom had came and got up and prepared the lambs. Then the foolish asked "please give us your oil, your lambs are falling asleep." But the wise brides said no and to go buy their own oil at the market, since there wouldn't be enough for all of them. Later, when the foolish ones came back the door was shut. The foolish ones pleaded' "Lord, Lord open the door for us." But the Lord replied, "Believe me, I don't know you," so you must keep my watch. You may never know the day or hour of my return.

I think what Jesus was trying to say in this parable is that we should always be prepared for what is next to come. In the way I see it Jesus is saying that you'll never know when He will come back to Earth, so you should always be prepared. In this parable Jesus says that 'there were 10 bridesmaids. Also how five were wise ones and 5 were foolish. When the groom had came out the foolish ones lambs wouldn't wake up because the foolish bridesmaids didn't bring oil. I could use that example and relate to it. A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last, both do the same thing; only at different times, is a quote by John Dalberg Acton. This basically means that wise people make smarter choices than foolish people, what I think the moral of the paragraph is.

An Unforgettable Memory

The wheels on the bus went round, and round all the way to Teen Ranch on November 14th, 2011. Teen Ranch to me, meant independence. It was a chance to discover life by myself without parents making discussions. Teen ranch gave memories that will probably last a lifetime. Some of the simple memories happened just by the food, horseback riding, cabin life and night time activities.

The food at teen ranch was delicious but nutritious. We had different kinds of food each day. Breakfast started at 8:00 am, lunch started at 12:00 pm, and dinner started at 5:00 pm. The food was yummy, but most of the time we could only have one serving. We were also arranged in 4 different colors red, blue, green and yellow. We had to do chores, just like at home, which was set-up in the diner hall. The diner hall was beautiful; it kind of looked like a restaurant. It was very interesting. There were about 10 tables in the dining room, and the neat thing was that there were in and out doors. The in and the out doors was leading into and out of the kitchen where all the cooking was going on. Sometimes we couldn't sit beside our friends and had to sit beside new people. Well, that happened to me. So I had to sit beside new people. I have to say that, that gave me a chance to make even more friends. I almost forgot desert. We also had desert after lunch and dinner. We had worms in snow and dirt, ice cream with apple crumble, chocolate and raisin cookies, Oreo ice cream and much more.

A life in a cabin definitely has its awkward moments but those memories are what made our cabin unique. The first day, well night, in our cabin was exciting because we got cabin 4, the best cabin. We started talking about our expectations for Teen Ranch. My cabin mates were Kristen, Katrina, Nyat, Keithlyne, Cameron, Hannah, and Samantha. The thoughts going inside my head once I saw the cabin were 'wow, these bunks are small,' because I was used to queen sized beds. We soon settled in and went to bed at about 12 pm. Kristen thought daylight saving had started a few days ago and woke us up at 5:30 am because she thought it was 6:30 am. It wasn't amusing at first, but after I laugh at those memories. We even have a cabin 4 head count chant to boost up our morning every day. Our cabin had many laughs, cries, and smiles and through it all we still came back as friends. The cabins gave us a chance to experience the starting of a new life.

A horse, a furry, more than 1500 pound huge animal, was what I only saw in little picture books. I never actually thought I would ever get to ride one. Staring right into Elvis's huge eyes told me that I knew I was gonna have a safe, and fun time riding on him. Agatha, the instructor, told us how to properly hold the horse's reigns, Hold, cut, extra, separate, and ice cones down was the simple words we needed to remember to hold the horse's reigns. In my opinion my horse, Elvis, was the best! We got to go horseback riding 2 times, and we got to trot, a horse jog, on our second horse ride. My horse tried to eat some grass while we were taking a horse ride. That was trouble. So I had to pull his head back. His head weighed a ton. Horseback riding was awesome and I'd love to do it again.

'Good night', as if, the night is where we all hang out together after such a long day. It's where you can hang out with your friends, take a quick nap, call your parents, or just look up at the stars. The night for me was probably one of the best parts of teen ranch. It was where people you hardly talked to or one of the best friends can hang out and even get closer to one another. We also had a planned period each night. On Monday we had Movie night. On Tuesday we had Karaoke/ Video dance party night. On Wednesday we had Bonfire/ Dance party night. It was amazing. At this point Teen Ranch has made each and everyone of us just a step closer to each of us.

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. Which mean that every single big thing you do, it tarts with a small, little thing. I think Teen Ranch was meant to teach each of us that, there is more than just sitting around and watching TV. Teen Ranch showed the beauty of nature, that probably most of us take for granted. Teen Ranch had changed many 11 and twelve year old lives. Teen Ranch had memories that will last forever. Thank You, Teen Ranch!

John McCrae

 Once Abraham Lincoln exclaimed these amazing words, "I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right and part with him when he goes wrong." This quote means that a solider that goes and has a job to fight for their country's right, and if some solider decides to betray or dies, the solider has to try and move on. John McCrae was a hero, some would say, or a brave man. John McCrae was born on November 30, 1872 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. John McCrae was born by parents, Lieutenant-Colonel David McCrae and Janet Simpson Eckford, therefore having a Scottish background. John McCrae had joined the Highland Cadet Corps at the age of 14, and then the military at the age of 17. He served in the South African War as an artillery subaltern from 1899-1900. After graduating from medical school at the University of Toronto, John McCrae set up his own practice as a pathologist in 1905. When John McCrae first went to war he was a medical officer, on June 1, 1915 in Boulogne No.3 General Hospital. Other occupations included poet, author, and Lieutenant Colonel of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. John McCrae had written the poem "In Flanders Fields" after he was inspired by his friend and his former student Lt. Alexis Helmer, both died in the battle. His poem "In Flanders Fields" was published in the magazine Punch on December 8, 1915. Shortly after, John McCrae got pneumonia and was sick for 5 days before he died. I think John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields" really gave a sense of what John McCrae was going through at that moment in war and the lose of his friends. Even through all the emotion John McCrae was what you could call brave.
