Mr. Hoodhood does not want his daughter to go to Columbia University because Mr.Hoodhood wants her to stay back and work for him. I think that it is totally unfair because Mr. Hoodhood is stopping her and not
letting her do what she want to do. Heather, Mr. Hoodhood's daughter is totally against war. Columbia University at the time was on strike to protest the war in Vietnam.

I think Heather is like a hippie, but at her age, she'd be considered as a flower child. Flower children are usually peace makers and most commonly try to end war. Obviously, parents always want the best for us but Mr. Hoodhood is the total opposite. As you know, all he really wants is his company to be the best of the best and not so much of what his kids want.

Some people surely have that type of attitude today but at one point in time, parents have to let go. For me, even though my mom and dad don't want me to leave or say goodbye. These are some challenges in
life. Sure, so people have this type of attitude but others just have a problem of letting go, but it's something in the future that we all go through.

Kowalski or Hoodhood?
By: Kristen
Date: April 17, 2012
Mr. Kowalski and Mr. Hoodhood are different because Mr. Kowalski is more generous and very kind. Mr. Hoodhood is very selfish and careless. Mr. Hoodhood only cares about his job, nothing else. One example of Mr. Kowalski's kindness is when Mr. Kowalski cancelled the bid for the school architectural. Mr. Hoodhood is very cocky and I think he has too much self-confidence in his company. Mr. Hoodhood is
basically the total opposite of Mr. Kowalski. They have little similarities to each other. Mr. Kowalski and Mr. Hoodhood are similar because there both building designers and the both are very committed to their jobs. They are both also devious and sneaky. They both will do whatever it takes to have what they truly want.
Macbeth.
By:Kristen
Date: April 11, 2012
The play starts off in Scotland. There are three witches whom are designing a magic potion to help a very evil prophecy. Just recently, Macbeth and Banquo have defeated two armies in battle. King Duncan just found out by his generals about the news. While Banquo and Macbeth were on their way to meet King Duncan, they suddenly encounter three odd witches. They tell him that Macbeth will become king of Scotland, but for that to happen, Banquo must be descended. At first Macbeth did not believe them until King Duncan's
men arrived to tell him that he has a reward for his braveness during battle. Then, Macbeth and King Duncan plan a dining together at Macbeth's castle. When Macbeth arrives home, Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill King Duncan and have the throne to him to fulfill the prophecy. Macbeth and his wife get King Duncan's chamberlains' entirely drunk, so that when King Duncan falls asleep, he can stab him. The next morning, Macbeth killed King Duncan's chamberlains' to make the people think that he is angry of his death. Suddenly, Macbeth remembers what the witches said. So then Macbeth sends someone to kill
Banquo and his son feleance. Macbeth went to visit the three witches increasingly insane. The witches said that he must beware of Macduff, he is not capable of being harmed if any men are "born of a women" and he will be safe until "Birman wood arrives to Dunsinane Castle". After the witches spoke to him, he was still concerned about Macduff. Macbeth suddenly finds out that Macduff has gone to England to plan an attack on Macbeth. Then he immediately orders Macduffs castle to be seized at once, including the killing of his children and wife. Later on, Lady Macbeth has become extremely guilty because of King Duncan's murder. Then she kills herself instantly. When Macbeth find out about her death, he becomes very sad but he is still confident that he has nothing to fear. Macbeth and Macduff encounter each other on the battle field. While they fought Macduff tells Macbeth that, he wasnot born of a woman. Then in an instant Macduff beheads Macbeth. Now Malcom is the king of Scotland and the witches' prophecy are
fulfilled.

                                                                                                       Camp Olympia essay

                                                                    By: Kristen

                                                                     Grade: 7

" One dies, one million cry. One million die, no one cries ". Doesn't that quote hit you hard? Doesn't that remind you of world hunger? How so much infants and children are dying, do to hunger. I think all food drives, all communities should help the hunger all together as one. It would be amazing because it would help them all out, but you know, we only have so much opportunities for these things. I know this might be a long way ahead of us but, I think we can make it.

Study shows that 250 000 people die in South Africa every year due to world hunger. Canada's  population is roughly around 34 million people. That's like a quarter of Canada's population, can u believe that? Do you people find this even acceptable at this rate? The people in South Africa usually die from disease, contaminated water, the list goes on and on, but you know what is terribly horrible? How kids in wealthy life style's complain or even cry about how they don't get Iphones or blackberries' for Christmas or for their birthdays. When they don't realize that half way around the world, there's a kid their age having to walk at least 8 to 10 km for just a drink of water that might not even be sanitary to drink. What has our society even become? All of our priorities have drastically changed into things that are completely useless. Our world needs to have a total reality check and end world hunger!

What is world hunger? World hunger is when a poor village or small city is badly in debt or not as wealthy as some countries. Kids and adults die from not eating much and usually labeled as "skin and bone". It brings tears to my eyes because I cannot stand to realize how these people are dying just because of hunger. People die every day because they can't even get a crumb of bread.

So I positively think that we should end world hunger, remember there has to be an ending for everything. I don't think God has brought us to this world to be selfish and greedy do you? Therefore I think that we should do fund raiser's, car washes, chocolate and bake sales. Anything that can raise enough money for us to reach South Africa, the Philippines', just anywhere in need for help. We should give these people food and water, doctors, certainly anything that could help them in their everyday lives. Just enough to see that giant smile on their faces. Wouldn't you just love to see that? Honestly, I just want to go to a place in  need and just give and you know return the favour. These are just one of my dream wishes.

So teachers, parents listen up! Let's all join together as one and help the needy and people struggling to live a normal life. I undoubtedly think that this should end. This might just take a little step each time but I think we can solve this world wide problem. So just please, I'm begging you to all donate to you local food drives or places for all of these people in need. All of you take the initiative and help out. I believe in all of us that we can resolve this social justice issue.

Lent
Class: Ms. Babb.
Grade: 7
Lent is mainly about how Jesus going to different places without any
food or water as a test of self-discipline and him dying on the cross for all of us. To give, share and sacrifice. The first day of lent starts on Ash Wednesday, which is a day that all Catholic's get black crosses on our foreheads to represent Jesus sacrificing his own life for all of our sins. I think the true meaning of lent is to sacrifice one or two things we like because if Jesus can go forty days(not including Sundays)without eating and drinking, then I might be capable of giving something up too. Usually kids give up pizza, video games,
account using and mainly everything they use a lot. For lent I thought that I should give up Facebook and chocolate because I use Facebook a lot and I love eating chocolate. By me giving up Facebook and
chocolate, I'm showing that I'm capable of giving up something for the lord our God because he gave up eating and drinking for us. Basically, everyone knows that story; well at least I hope so. The real truth is
that lent is about giving, sharing and sacrifice. I think these three words are the meaning and the true definition of lent.Always remember to pray and thank the lord our god for another day.

Zoink'd essay.

                            Two points of view.
                            December 12th, 2011
                                Written by: Kristen
"Be zany, or be zoink'd". That is the motto for the show Zoink'd. It's a game show, that's trying to find the most funny and creative person. The person who wins the competition, will get $1000. Warning, the $1000 may come in pennies. Now, the only question now is, Who's going to win?
The show about four judges, who are Natalie, Wyse, Aleska and Neal. By the way, the host for this show is Adam Christie. Just a reminder, they're trying to find out who is the most funny, exciting, outrageous person. The person with the highest points overall, will win $1000. In total there were eight performances throughout the whole show. There was the dancing rapper/bear guy, The guitar/singing guy, the magician, the bad whistler lady, the rope jumpers, Robert Patterson, the baby crying girl and James Murphy. All of the contestants got zoink'd, but Robert Pattinson  and James Murphy. The judges thought that they both preformed wonderfully, they thought it was the best thing ever! One reminder, there can only be one winner. Which is James Murphy, he did a great break dancing performance.
The studio of the zoink'd show was pretty well laid out. It was also cozy. It was never freezing or burning hot, the temperature in the studio was just right. The only thing I didn't really like about the studio, was the seats in the back were the audience had to sit in. The seats were all attached to each other and if one of the people in the row would lean back with it. It was pretty annoying. Overall, all give a studio an A+.
At the break/commercials there would be this guy named josh, who was are entertainer so to speak. He was a very funny, enthusiastic person. Josh would talk to us through a microphone and ask us how we are and how were doing. Then he'd ask they audience if anyone had a good talent. So the first person that came on down was jade, from grade eight. Her talent was singing. So she sang her entertaining           song. Then show came back on, then came the next brake. There were enough time for two best talent performances. So the first performance was a boy named Marcel in grade eight. He came up to josh, Josh said " So what's your talent Marcel"? Marcel replied, "nothing". So basically Marcel came up for nothing. He just said hi, good talent eh (sarcasm)? The second talent was Ethan from grade seven. His talent was dancing so then Josh and Ethan did a "booty pop". It was by far the most hilarious thing ever. Then the show came back on, then the last break was on and Josh and Adam came out. They threw marshmallow's at the audience to catch the marshmallow's so that they would aim and try to get the marsh mellow in Adams mouth. I think only about two people got marshmallow's in Adam's mouth. Every break was overall entertaining in every way.
Over all of the complication about the seats, the show was amazing. Some acts were great, and some were just plain clueless. But I have seen the difference between what I see on my television to the actual studio. It's not actually what it seems. The show is basically a reality game show, but it actually isn't because They are re-doing parts, and it's not like a live game show. All of the judges come from acting agencies. They edit most of the parts. It's just crazy what people do on television. Shocking but when it's on air, I bet they will make it a good show.

Religion Parable
Luke 11:5-8
Name: Kristen
Date: Wednesday November 30, 2011

And Jesus said to his disciples, "Suppose one of you should go to a friend's house at midnight and say "friend, let me borrow three loaves of bread. A friend of mine who is on a trip has just come to my house, and I don't have any food for him!' And suppose you friend should answer from inside, 'Don't bother me! The door is already locked, and my child and I are in bed I can't get up and give you anything! Well, what then? I'll tell you that even if he will not get up and give you bread because you are his friend, yet he will get up and give you everything you need because you are not ashamed to keep on asking.

If you ever came to your friend's house at midnight for three loaves of bread and they replied, "No I don't have any bread, why are you disrupting me, my child and my sleep! How dare u come at this hour"? They are not a humble friend. But a humble friend will not just give three loaves of bread. They will give you everything you need, just to know that you are ok.

I think the parable is trying to say that no matter what day or time, they will always be there for you no matter what. But even though you guys are just friends, they should help you in anyway and be there for you at all times.

Title: Teen Ranch Experience

Name: Kristen
Date: Friday November 25, 2011
Teacher: Ms. Babb.

North of Orangeville, there is a place called teen ranch. An overnight camp for all ages. There are cabins and horses and much more. It's an amazing experience, physically and spiritually. It's a place where it's all about having a great time and putting all the stress and worries behind. You wake up to a beautiful morning. With a very delicious meal and even if you sleep late, and you're super tired, you still won't be grumpy. It's also kind of like having a sleepover with your friends.
At teen ranch the food was amazing delicious. On the first day we had salad, sausage and pirogues. The best meal we had was rice, chicken and vegetables. I obviously loved that meal because I'm Asian but that still doesn't make a difference. The food was yummy that day and I enjoyed it, very much. The only thing I dislike in all of the meals is the oatmeal and raisin cookies. They were disgusting. No offence to them, they're great cooks but I just highly disliked the oatmeal cookies. Overall they did a great job.
My Cabin was the best cabin ever! In my cabin I had Hannah, Nyat, Cameron, Anita, Katrina and Samantha. On the first night we slept at around ten or eleven and woke up at 5:15 in the morning thinking it was daylight savings. That night, the plan was to wake up at 6 or 6:30 to take showers but instead we woke up an hour early. The only thing I didn't really like about the cabins was how the shower temperatures are uncontrollable. Like we would turn the nob to the middle to make it warm and it would do the total opposite and the water would turn into freezing cold. Even though the cabin had a little complication's, it was still kind of a pretty good cabin.
For our activities at teen ranch we played frolf, rock climbing, and horseback riding. My top favourite activity we did there was rock climbing because I think it was the most exciting out of all of the activity's. When they get you set up, they slide a harness on you, adjust the ropes to you and your ready to climb. But before you climb, you have to ask to questions which are, if your blay on and permission to climb. When I climbed it took me 20 seconds to climb up the wall. But the fastest time out of my whole grade is 13 or 14 seconds. It's was a good climb.
The night time activity's we had at teen ranch were movie night, another dance/karaoke and another dance. Movie night was pretty boring because the movie we watched was karate kid and I bet me and my whole grade probably at least seen in once or twice. The first dance was fun but not as fun as the second dance. The second dance was exciting and very funny. There were people dancing and just having a good time.
In the end, teen ranch was a great place with your friends and family. After the trip you realize what great friends you have with you. I am very great full for the great time. Since now that I have told u my experience, it's your turn now to have a great time like I did.

John McCrae

John McCrae.

"If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields."- John McCrae.

John McCrae, a famous poet, was born in Guelph, Ontario at November 30, 1872. McCrae was a brave solider during World War 1. John McCrae was a Medical Officer and an Artillery subaltern in WW1 and went to the University of Toronto. McCrae is familiarly known for the author of Flanders Fields. He made this poem to represent the dead men in WW1 and the poppies in Flanders Fields. He wrote the poem in 1915 near the poppies in Flanders Fields. After three years, John McCrae died of Pneumonia in 1918.
I think that John McCrae wrote this poem to represent the dead men in Flanders Fields. Everyone wears poppies in remembering of the soldiers who fought in war. I think john McCrae is a great man because he made this amazing and truthful poem, and he also served our country. John McCrae served from 1899-1900, but the question is, what made him write this poem?
